School Council is a valuable home/school link that supports the learning environment of our students, your children.
Some of the council's key tasks include:
- Building a sense of community within the school
- Acting as advisors who provide ideas, knowledge and opinions to assist the principal (and where appropriate, the school board trustees) in their decisions on educational issues
- Organizing special events for students and staff
- Fundraising to assist the school with purchasing new equipment(s) & supplies for classrooms, the school yard or other school facilities.
School Council membership includes parents (elected by parents), the principal, member(s) of the teaching staff, non-teaching staff representative(s) and, if possible, an appointed community member.
Elections for the Council Executive are held at the first meeting every year in September.
Our meetings are open to all Summerside school parents and guardians and typically last between 1-2 hours. Meetings occur every month from September until June.
Getting involved with council is a great way to stay up to date with what is going on in the school. It allows you to get to know our school administration and meet other Summerside parents. Most of all, your involvement allows you to be a part of a dedicated team working to support a high quality education for our children!
