We are very excited for the second ski and snowboarding trip to Camp Fortune in Gatineau for Grade 7 & 8 students. We have limited space on the buses still open for the second trip. Spots will be given on a first come basis. Please read carefully and complete the following information.  

 

What: Learn to ski or snowboard in a well structured and guided environment. All students will take a lesson. Students will be assessed and limited to slopes that are within their skill level to ensure safety.

Before the trip

  • Fill the form online (here) *** If the form doesn't work, it might be because you need to use gmail (you can use your child’s gmail). If that doesn't work please let me know.  
  • Sign permission form 
  • Make payment (before Feb14th)
    • I have sent cash to the office labelled with my child's name and Camp Fortune
    • I will make payment before Jan 10th 
  • If your child would like to participate but you can’t for financial reasons,  please contact stuart.van.oostveen@ocdsb.ca to discuss a possible subsidy.
  • Review this memo about getting Student insurance (Caregivers may apply online at insuremykids.com or call 1-800-463-5437.). If you have any questions, please call Jones DesLauriers Ottawa (formerly Binks Insurance Brokers) directly at 613-226-1350.

All areas designated as “Freestyle Terrain,” or  “Terrain Park,” which include features that may contain jumps, hits, ramps, banks, fun boxes, jibs, rails, half pipes, quarter pipes, snowcross, bump terrain and/or other constructed terrain features, are prohibited.

  • Ensure your child has a well fitted certified helmet for skiing or snowboarding. A helmet comes with all rentals.

Day of the trip 

  • Dress for the weather. THIS is the most important for student safety. Ski goggles are highly recommended on a very cold day. 
  • Make sure your child has: gloves, hats, snow pants, warm hat, extra layers, extra socks. 
  • Pack enough food and water for the day (until our 6h30 pm return). 
  • Send $ for the cafeteria if desired.

Schedule

  • We will leave school at 9h30 am. 
  • Once there, students will have an orientation on the bus.
  • Students who need rentals will proceed to the rental shop.
  • All students will go to the assessment center and get their ski lessons.
  • All students must report to their instruction lesson at the given time. 
  • We will assemble in the cafeteria (school has a spot). Report to an adult once in a while.
  • Be ready to depart at 5h15 pm. 
  • Pick up : we will return to Summerside between 6h15-6h30pm at the latest. Caregivers to arrange pick up. 

 

Parent volunteers

We will need parent volunteers that have a valid VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK. You can get one done fairly quickly. Please email Stuart.van.oostveen@ocdsb.ca for more info. 


Ski lifts are free. Parents only need to pay for rentals if needed. 20$. We have a limited amount of volunteers we can bring.
